Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) & Suggested Tips

Can TWP* be painted over? Yes, first you must allow a minimum of 30 days due to a curing process. Because it contains water repellant, an oil based caulking, oil based primer or paint must be used.

Water based paint can be used if a primer is used first.

Will TWP* stain the caulking/chinking?    Yes, TWP will stain caulking and chinking. Be sure to test the caulking/chinking and the TWP for compatibility.  Always caulk or chink before applying TWP.

Will TWP* protect my deck/fence from scratch marks?   No, TWP is a penetrating wood preservative, not a varnish. TWP does not form a film, and doesn’t protect wood from scratches.

How can I tell if my previously treated wood will accept a coat of TWP*?   After cleaning/power washing, if water beads up on you wood, there is still enough of the old wood treatment remaining to adversely affect penetration of TWP. A good rule of thumb, if your wood absorbs water, it will absorb TWP.

How can I remove the white residue SAFE-STRIP has left on my windows?  Spray on a mixture of equal parts of Simple Green and water and use a non-abrasive soft bristle brush to rub off the residue.

Suggested Cleaning Tips  For TWP* and Companion Products

Concrete:  If TWP is still wet, mineral spirits (paint thinner) may be used to clean TWP from a surface. If it is allowed to dry, you can try oven cleaner (follow directions). You can also try Gemini Injectable Safe Strip. With any job, it is always best to prepare in advance than having to clean or strip an area later.

Aluminum: If the TWP is still wet, Mineral Spirits (paint thinner) may be used. If the area is already dry you try VM & P Naptha (lighter fluid). Acetone may also work.  If the area is completely dry, oven cleaner may be the only thing that will remove the stain (follow label instructions).  Oven cleaner may discolor the aluminum. Please pay close attention and use extreme caution.

Skin: If TWP is still wet, a good quality dishwashing soap will work however; if it dries on your hands you may try an automotive grade hand cleaner like GOJO, GOOP, or FAST ORANGE. Use a fingernail brush for best results.
